Cookies and Web Beacons

Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer’s hard drive.

We use “cookies” to collect information, such as your personal preferences when you visit the site.  This could include only showing a popup one time when you visit the site, or the ability to login to some site features such as forums or comments.

We also use third party advertisements on ruralcoders.com to support our site.  Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google though the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your Internet Service Provider, the browser you use to visit the site, and what plugins you have installed on your browser.  This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing relevant advertising content – such as real estate listings in your area) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as auto parts ads to someone who frequents automotive forums).

You can chose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings, or by managing preferences in programs such as safe browsing suites (Norton Internet Security), but this may also affect how you are able to interact with the site and other websites.  For example, you may not be able to logon to sites or comment on web forums without cookies enabled.

Google AdSense and many other companies customize ad content based on your online activity.  Go to AdChoices to control ads from other ad networks.
